Decontaminating our bodies
The images of choked-up beaches and contaminated parts of our oceans, makes me realize that this is a reflection of what we are subjecting our bodies to.
How do we turn the tide?
Easy. Think of junk food as plastic, clogging up your unique body. The body is not designed to cope with processed foods and additives. Everything you put into your mouth will affect you in some way. Either we choose foods that enable our magnificent orchestra to play in harmony, or we create a painful cacophony by making bad choices.
The first ingredient to avoid fastidiously is white sugar. And especially the hidden sugar in so many foods. The only way we can become aware of this is to read the ingredient list of everything we buy. Slowly we will be able to appreciate how much hidden sugar we eat unwittingly.
White sugar is poison for our bodies – from the inflammation it causes as it enters the blood, resulting in glucose level spikes, to the fact that it feeds cancer cells.
AND as we get more experienced (aka older), our bodies are less able to utilize refined sugars and carbohydrates, and hence the inexplicable weight gain.
The good news is that our bodies are hardwired to use healthy fats (extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, and avocado oil), so lets start substituting all those unhealthy fats and sugars with healthy fats. You’ll be surprised at how well your body will respond.
Tip for the day: Drizzle some yummy extra virgin olive oil over your salad and veggies today.
Because our bodies (and especially our brains) are not able to deal with lots of white sugar and refined carbs, it may be the reason for increased cases of dementia, Alzheimers and more.
If we think about it, our bodies become less able to utilize these compounds, but certain cells thrive on the same – guess which? Cancer cells. Is it no wonder that the chance of developing cancer is increased as we get older? Many like to say that it is because our bodies are declining and, in a way, that is true, but now we are able to counter much of this by changing our diet.
How lucky can we be?
Tip for the day: Enjoy some fresh avocado with some delicious extra virgin olive oil together with some chopped coriander.
